North Fork Nehalem Hatchery
(503) 368-5670

From: Chris Wheaton: fwchrisw@qcsn.com Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife

Please be advised that the North Fork Nehalem Hatchery provides a premier angling site for wheelchair anglers. The hatchery is located on Highway 53, approximately 10 (very crooked) road miles south of Highway 26. Best fishing is for winter steelhead, with coho and chinook also available. A host is usually present during winter steelhead season, which generally peaks December - February. One of our hosts is a disabled angler himself, and is very helpful (as is the hatchery staff) with tips, etc. Since those using the disabled platform have access to an area above the angling deadline, their catch rate often surpasses the other anglers on the river. Fishing can be very good, indeed. The hatchery has a recorded telephone message line, which is kep current during peak seasons with flow, river clarity, and catch information . The site access is paved, the fishing platform is concrete, with a low rail barrier, and nets are provided.
